BEIRUT — Caretaker Lebanese Prime Minister Nagib Mikati said on Friday that the security situation in Lebanon is stable and that all necessary measures are in place to facilitate the reopening of the UAE embassy in Beirut. Mikati made the remarks during a meeting with Lebanon’s UAE Ambassador Fouad Dandan at the Grand Serail.
A press release from the Serail, shared on Platform X, stated that Dandan briefed Mikati on the next steps for reopening the embassy, but provided no further details.
In October 2021, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and Kuwait recalled their diplomats from Lebanon following controversial comments made by then-Lebanese Information Minister Georges Kordahi about the Arab-led war in Yemen.
Since then, relations have since improved, and in October 2023, an agreement was reached to reopen the Emirati mission in Beirut. However, the events of Oct. 7 and the subsequent war in Lebanon delayed the process.
