BEIRUT — Hafez al-Assad Avenue, which runs through the Upper Metn areas of Mdeirej, Hammana, and Bzebdine, was renamed Freedom Avenue on Friday "in homage to the free martyrs," Progressive Socialist Party (PSP) MP Hadi Abou al-Hosn announced in a Facebook post, reported the state-run National News Agency (NNA).
Abou al-Hosn also noted that the avenue's name had been imposed on the region's municipalities "a quarter of a century ago, under Syrian tutelage."
