Lebanese army intelligence services arrested a Lebanese human smuggler on Friday at his home in the village of Sindyaneh, in the Akkar region. According to L’OrientToday correspondent Michel Hallak, the man, whose name has not been disclosed, had turned his house into a shelter for undocumented Syrians, helping them illegally cross into Lebanon.
The army also detained several Syrian nationals alongside the smuggler and transported the group to the local gendarmerie. Following an initial investigation, the cases have been referred to the judiciary for further action.
