Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati created a crisis cell to examine the issue of missing or abducted people in Syria.

According to the daily al-Modon, the meeting also addressed the issue of security inside Lebanon, where the cease-fire between Hezbollah and Israel has held for two weeks, despite several incidents and the fact that the Israeli army occupies a strip of territory in the south of the country.

The committee will include representatives from the ministries and departments concerned with the case, as well as from the independent national commission responsible for the case of missing persons. The creation of the new committee responds to a request from this commission.

The decision was taken during a meeting on Monday with the Director General of the Internal Security Forces, General Imad Osman, and the acting Director of the General Security, General Elias Baissari, to review the security situation at the border crossings. These have been temporarily closed in recent days following the rebel offensive that shook Syria and led to the fall of Bashar al-Assad.
