The Israeli army announced Friday that it is bolstering its troops in the occupied Syrian Golan Heights as a rapid offensive by rebels, led by extremist Islamists in Syria, aims to overthrow President Bashar Assad.
"The army says it is monitoring the evolving situation," and is "prepared to respond to any scenario, whether offensive or defensive," the statement read, adding that it would not tolerate "any threats."
