Caretaker Lebanese Education Minister Abbas Halabi has called on private schools that have returned to in-person learning to also provide online classes amid the ongoing war between Israel and Hezbollah.
"Private schools that have opted for in-person education are required to offer parallel remote learning in response to parents' requests (…) until the end of December," Halabi emphasized in a statement. This decision extends a previous circular issued on the matter.
The minister also extended the registration period for students in public schools, which opened in early November, until Dec. 6 inclusive.
The current school year has been severely impacted by the conflict. Classes have been repeatedly disrupted in private schools, while the public school system struggles to start properly. According to ministry figures, more than 30,000 of the roughly 300,000 expected students have yet to attend.
