The Lebanese Internal Security Forces (ISF) announced on Thursday the seizure of 300,000 Captagon pills that had been prepared for shipment to Cyprus, and the arrest of a suspect.

In a press release, the police, who did not specify when the arrest took place, said they had obtained information concerning the preparation by a “person wanted by the law” of a shipment of drugs bound for Cyprus. After investigation, the ISF were able to seize the shipment, which had been hidden in an oven used to bake “manaeesh.” Twenty-eight kilos of Captagon pills were hidden inside.

The owner of the truck carrying the oven was arrested at an unspecified location. He is a Lebanese “ex-convict” born in 1957 and identified by the initials J. A. He was wanted in drug trafficking cases. His house and scrap metal workshop were searched, and the police found 25 kilos of Captagon, which were also to be sent to an oven. The total number of pills seized amounts to 300,000, according to the press release.

The workshop was sealed off and the suspect brought to justice.
