U.S. envoy Amos Hochstein will visit Beirut on Tuesday for discussions on a proposed cease-fire between Hezbollah and Israel, a Lebanese political source told Reuters on Monday.
The Voice of Lebanon radio station also reported on the visit, citing MP Kassem Hachem, affiliated with the Baath Party.
According to Israel’s Channel 12, Hochstein will then travel to Tel Aviv on Wednesday. The channel described the trip as evidence of "progress in contacts" between the parties.
U.S. efforts to secure a cease-fire in Lebanon have intensified recently amid a deadly escalation on the ground. Washington is ramping up pressure on the Israelis to end hostilities in Lebanon, with an agreement being pursued between the outgoing Biden administration and the incoming team of Donald Trump, who aims for diplomatic success before taking office.
"The Americans told us the Israelis want to conclude this," a senior Lebanese official told L'Orient Today last week.
According to sources, Hochstein contacted Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri’s team last Wednesday, and discussions took place over several points of a potential cease-fire agreement.
