BEIRUT — Hezbollah released a 30-second video on Saturday about an Israeli master sergeant from the 228th Reserve Brigade killed by the group in southern Lebanon.

Hezbollah identified him as Guy Shabtay, claiming he belonged to the "8207 Battalion of the 228th Reserve Brigade."

According to The Jerusalem Post, Shabtay was severely wounded during combat in Lebanon on Oct. 26 and succumbed to his injuries on Nov. 8. Israeli media claims he served as the "Coordinator of Religious and Spiritual Services in the 8207th Battalion."

In a propaganda video, Hezbollah showed a picture of Shabtay smiling, stating that this was how he looked when he entered the southern Lebanese village of Kfarkila in the Marjayoun district. The video then showed soldiers carrying his coffin, with a caption adding, "This is how he got out of the village."

The group also quoted Shabtay's brother at the burial ceremony, saying: "Guy was affiliated with the [Israeli army's] military rabbinate but entered the battle in South Lebanon as part of Battalion 8207 due to manpower shortages."

At the end of the video, Hezbollah's former Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah can be heard saying: "They are suffering as much as you are."

The Israeli military has killed more than 3,450 people in Lebanon, and more than 1.2 million people have been displaced since the conflict began in Oct. 2023. Following months of cross-border hostilities between Hezbollah and Israel, parallel to the war in Gaza, the Israeli army launched Operation Northern Arrows on Sept. 23. This operation consisted of extensive airstrikes across Lebanon, one of which killed Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah on Sept. 27, followed by a ground offensive three days later.
