Tuesday evening, President-elect Donald Trump appointed Steven Witkoff as special envoy to the Middle East. However, this 67-year-old real estate investor and Trump’s golf partner has no diplomatic experience. The future president, who has promised to end the wars in Gaza and Lebanon, wrote on X that Wilkoff “will be an unrelenting voice for peace.” The war that began on Oct. 7, 2023, in the Gaza Strip has killed more than 43,000 Palestinians, while the death toll in Lebanon has risen to more than 3,200.
