Kataeb leader Samy Gemayel held talks in Washington on Wednesday with U.S. envoy Amos Hochstein, who is expected in Tel Aviv and Beirut this week to try to reach a cease-fire agreement between Israel and Hezbollah.

Gemayel was briefed by the American envoy on “the results of the latest cease-fire attempts in Lebanon,” as part of his trip to Paris and then Washington to hold a series of meetings with officials involved in the Lebanese issue. He stressed the need for “Lebanon's national interests to be at the table of any ongoing settlement, and for the sovereignty of the state, the restoration of its free will and the interests of the Lebanese people to be at the center of any agreement that might be reached.”

These words come as the war between Israel and Hezbollah has claimed 3,287 lives and wounded 14,222 since October 2023.
