The European Council decided on Wednesday to grant 15 million euros in aid “to strengthen the capabilities of the Lebanese Army,” according to a Council press release.

“This assistance measure aims to strengthen the troop's capacities by improving its capabilities in military medical operations and engineering and logistics operations,” states the text, which also recalls that "the partnership between the European Union and Lebanon remains a priority in a volatile and unpredictable regional security context."

This aid comes at a time when the troops are bearing the full brunt of the severe crisis that Lebanon has been experiencing since 2019. In October, the Paris conference organized to help Lebanon in the midst of the ongoing war between Hezbollah and Israel raised 200 million euros in aid for the Lebanese Army.
