BEIRUT — The Iranian ambassador to Beirut, Mojtaba Amani, will return to Lebanon once he has recovered from injuries incurred in the pager explosions in Lebanon in September, according to the semi-official Iranian news agency Mehr News. Amani was reportedly injured in the face by the explosion of his pager, among the thousands distributed by Hezbollah that had been rigged by Mossad with explosive material. He was immediately flown to Tehran for treatment. Mehr News does not specify how far along Amani is in his recovery.
According to the reports, during a meeting between Amani and Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in Iran, the foreign minister emphasized the "necessity of taking all the necessary measures ... to immediately stop the crimes of the Zionist regime against Lebanon."
More than 3,240 people have been killed in Lebanon since the beginning of the conflict between Hezbollah and Israel in October 2023.
Araghchi also presented the ambassador with the "necessary instructions for the upcoming period."
On Sept. 17 and 18, Hezbollah members' communication devices exploded simultaneously, killing dozens across Lebanon and wounding thousands. On Sunday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu publicly acknowledged, for the first time, that Israel was responsible for the coordinated explosions.
