BEIRUT — Twelve people were killed on Monday, three of whom were children, in an Israeli airstrike that targeted and partially demolished an apartment building in the village of Saksakieh, in Saida district. The home that was targeted belongs to the son-in-law and the cousin of Amin Shomer, Saksakieh's mokhtar, responsible for the municipality's records. The majority of the victims were family members of Shomer, who is a correspondent working for Hezbollah's TV channel Al-Manar.
Among the victims of the bombing are his daughter Hiba Shomer, his son-in-law Mohammad Siblini, his granddaughter Zahraa Seblini and his cousin Amin Shomer. Amin Shomer's wife Sakna Fakih and his daughters Leila and Zeinab Shomer are also among the fatalities.
Other people killed in the strike include Zahra Fakih, Zaynab Seblini, and three children: Zaynab's son Mehdi Abbas, Miriam Kawtharani and Alia Fakih. Although Mehdi Abbas and Hiba Shomer are still missing, they have been counted among the deceased.
Their burial will take on Wednesday in the village of Saksakieh.
More than 3,240 people have been killed in Lebanon since the beginning of the conflict between Hezbollah and Israel in October, 2023. At least a dozen journalists in Lebanon have been targeted and killed in Israeli attacks since the fighting began.
