BEIRUT — The Israeli army's Arabic spokesperson, Avichay Adraee, said that the army's 36th Division in coordination with the Shaldag unit destroyed a Hezbollah "underground compound hidden under a cemetery in southern Lebanon" last week.
"Troops of the 36th Division, in cooperation with special units and under the direction of the Intelligence Directorate, conducted a special ground operation last week to destroy an underground terrorist compound belonging to Hezbollah in southern Lebanon, where the entrance to the compound was hidden under a cemetery in southern Lebanon," Adraee posted on X.
"In the underground terrorist compound, located 1.5 kilometers from the border, command rooms, living spaces and weapons depots were discovered, containing rifles and combat equipment ready to carry out an incursion into Israel's borders," he added.
He also claimed that Shaldag forces "discovered several openings that exposed the entire route and destroyed the terrorist compound, which stretched for about one kilometer and was about two meters high."
Adraee finally said that "about 4,500 cubic meters of cement were pumped into the site by hundreds of trucks and concrete mixers," adding that the operation was conducted over seven days.
Photos showing the Israeli army pumping cement into underground facilities, allegedly in southern Lebanon, were widely circulated on social media on Monday.
Hezbollah and Israel have been engaged in an attrition war since October 2023 in parallel with the war in Gaza. Last October, the Israeli army launched a ground offensive in Lebanon following intensive airstrikes across Lebanon in late September.
