Caretaker Telecoms Minister Johnny Corm announced at the end of the week a series of changes to the procedures for joining and terminating the fixed-line telephone network administered by Ogero, imposed by the security context due to the intensification of clashes between Hezbollah and Israel. More than 300 people have been killed, the majority since the end of September, and more than two million have been displaced.
In the statement published Friday by the state-run National News Agency (NNA), the minister specified that subscribers who have had to flee their homes can request the deactivation of their subscription free of charge to no longer be billed. This possibility is open to those whose connections were damaged or destroyed by the Israeli strikes.
Also, Ogero subscribers whose telephone lines were damaged or destroyed by the bombings will see their contract suspended from the date on which the lines ceased to function.
Finally, the minister said that subscribers who have been forced to move can transfer their subscription to their new address free of charge. If the subscription is already suspended, they can reactivate it free of charge. Billing will resume on the date of reactivation or transfer.
