Lebanese outgoing Prime Minister Najib Mikati held talks on Saturday with the Lebanese mufit, sheikh Abdellatif Derian, at Dar al-Fatwa in Beirut, ahead of a meeting of the cherished Higher Islamic Council.

“During all the meetings we hold, we see the unity, solidarity and enthusiasm of the Lebanese people,” said Mikati, quoted by the official National News Agency (NNA). “I was pleased with this meeting of the Supreme Islamic Council. The directives of the mufti focused on the need to emphasize unity, inclusive discourse and taking everyone into account,” he added.

On Thursday, mufti Derian was received at the Grand Serail by the Prime Minister, who called on the various Lebanese parties to “cooperate” in the face of the ongoing Israeli offensive and the risk of sedition. He felt that solidarity on all sides would “strengthen Lebanon's internal position in the face of political, social and economic crises.”
