Why is the Israeli army targeting vehicles in Araya and Kahaleh?
The vehicles, one of which was carrying weapons, were hit as they traveled along or near the highway that links Beirut to the Bekka and then on to Syria.

BEIRUT — Since the war between Hezbollah and Israel escalated on Sept. 23, the Christian villages of Araya and Kahaleh in Mount Lebanon, located some 10 kilometers from the Lebanese capital, have been subjected to several Israeli airstrikes that targeted vehicles as they drove along or near the highway passing through these villages, linking Beirut to the Bekaa and, further east, Syria.On Wednesday morning, an Israeli airstrike targeted a van in Araya, killing the driver. Araya's mayor, Pierre Bejjani, told L'Orient Today that the van was carrying a load of weapons and rockets, which was confirmed by a Lebanese security source to AFP.
