The United States expressed that it is "deeply concerned" about a bill under consideration in Israel's parliament aimed at banning the U.N.'s Palestinian refugee agency (UNRWA), reported AFP.


"We have made quite clear to the government of Israel that we are deeply concerned by this, this proposed legislation," State Department spokesman Matthew Miller told reporters, reiterating the "critical" role the agency plays in distributing humanitarian aid in Gaza.

British Foreign Secretary David Lammy reported that his Israeli counterpart, Israel Katz, assured him the previous day that the military offensive in Lebanon "would end shortly," according to AFP.

"I spoke yesterday [Sunday] about the situation in Lebanon with Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz," Lammy told Parliament. "He sought to reassure me that the current operation, the targeted operation carried out by the Israelis, would end shortly," he continued.

A bill to ban the activities of the U.N. agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) in Israel has been submitted to the Israeli parliament ahead of a final vote, reported AFP. Israel has long been critical of the agency, and relations have deteriorated since the start of the Gaza war between Israel and Hamas on Oct. 7, 2023. The government has accused some UNRWA employees of involvement in the Hamas attacks in southern Israel. For its part, UNRWA has denounced the bill and conducted its own probe into Israeli allegations. It also terminated the contracts of the accused members.

He said that he was going to "get out of here, get on a secure line, and follow up on that," following the Egyptian proposal for a two-day truce in the Palestinian Territory, presented as the first step towards a complete cease-fire.

Here’s an update on Israeli attacks in southern Lebanon: 


- Several airstrikes targeted houses in Khiam (Marjayoun district), residents reported. Five intense airstrikes also targeted the town of Khiam, causing fires to erupt, accompanied by shelling with several Merkava tanks positioned in the valleys in the town.


- The town of Srifa, al-Mansour (both located in the Sour district) and the eastern entrance of the city of Sour were targeted by Israeli warplanes, according to residents.

Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant claimed that Israel's strikes on Iran on Saturday had "changed the balance of power" between the two sworn enemies, reported AFP.

The breakdown of casualties is as follows:

- In the South Lebanon governate: 23 killed and 97 wounded.

- In the Bekaa governate: 2 killed and 1 wounded. 

- In the Baalbeck-Hermel governate: 4 killed and 2 wounded.

"The head of Mossad has returned from meetings in Doha on Gaza, and mediators will continue discussions with Hamas in the coming days to see the possibility of advancing a deal," Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was quoted by Reuters as saying. Palestinian prisoners' rights organizations have accused the Israeli prison administration of “brutally assaulting” the most known Palestinian prisoner, Marwan Barghouthi, in September.

Members of the prison administration's “repression units” beat Barghouthi in his solitary confinement cell at Megiddo prison (northern Israel) on Sept. 9, the Palestinian Prisoners' Affairs Committee, the Prisoners' Club and Barghouthi's support group said in separate statements.

These organizations obtained this information from a lawyer who was able to meet Barghouthi yesterday, his first visit in three months, the Prisoners' Club told AFP.

Israeli aircraft violently bombed Hellaniyeh (Baalbeck), reports our correspondent in the Bekaa, Sarah Abdallah. Rescue workers on the scene have given a preliminary toll of six dead and wounded.

Israeli artillery fire targeted Halta in the Hasbaya district, with one shell landing near the town's school, local residents reported.

On X, the Foreign Ministry said it had referred the matter to the U.N. Security Council over “recent Israeli attacks on journalists and media facilities in Hasbaya and Ouzai.” “Israel's repeated attacks on media crews constitute a war crime” and Israel must be "held accountable and punished," the ministry added.

Three journalists were killed in a strike that targeted a compound housing reporters in the previously unscathed town of Hasbaya at dawn on Friday. The strike occurred as the journalists were sleeping.

Several media crews had set up there a month ago to cover the war between Hezbollah and the Israeli army. A cameraman and his technician from the channel Al-Mayadeen and a journalist from the Hezbollah channel Al-Manar were killed.

The head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell, has once again called for an “immediate cease-fire” in Lebanon, deeming the Israeli army's repeated attacks on U.N. troops deployed in Lebanon (UNIFIL) “unacceptable,” reports AFP.

“The European Union calls for an immediate cease-fire on both sides of the Blue Line,” the buffer zone that stretches some 120 kilometers between Lebanon's southern border and Israel's northern border, Borrell told a meeting of the 43 members of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) in Barcelona.

The EU High Representative also called for “the application of United Nations Security Council resolutions.”

The Kremlin has affirmed that Russia is doing everything in its power to facilitate de-escalation attempts in the Middle East by calling on all parties to exercise restraint, Reuters reports.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov made the comments in response to questions about the impact of the Israeli strikes on Iran. “Russia maintains contacts with all parties to the conflict. We have contacts with Tehran, as well as with the Israelis and Palestinians,” Peskov told reporters. “Russia is constantly doing everything in its power to call on the parties to exercise restraint and to facilitate any attempts to de-escalate tensions. “The situation remains extremely tense in the region and, of course, it is very important to promote restraint in this regard."

Two Iranian news agencies have announced the killing of a civilian in pre-dawn Israeli strikes on military sites in Iran on Saturday, AFP reports.

“Martyr Allahverdi Rahimpour, a civilian killed near Tehran in the recent attack by the Zionist regime, has been buried,” Fars and Tasnim agencies announced. Following the strikes, the Iranian army reported the death of four officers.

Hezbollah claimed responsibility for several attacks on Israel overnight and this morning

Hezbollah claimed to have targeted with artillery at 6:30 a.m., 7 a.m., 7:15 a.m. and 8 a.m. this morning, and four times, a gathering of Israeli soldiers positioned in front of the Fatmeh gate, a former crossing point between Lebanon and Israel near Kfar Kila (Marjayoun).

The party announced that at 12:50 a.m. it had fired a swarm of rockets for the second time at a gathering of Israeli soldiers stationed between Menara and Margalio, opposite Houla.

In its last statement of the night, it had also announced that it had fired a swarm of rockets at a gathering of soldiers stationed in Misgav Am (opposite Odaisseh) at 10 p.m.

At 6 a.m. this morning, two Israeli raids targeted the localities of Yohmor and Arnoun (Nabatieh district).

Earlier, at around 5 a.m., Israeli artillery targeted the upper quarter of Arnoun (Nabatieh).

During the night, at around 3.30 a.m., Israeli aircraft raided a building belonging to the Mousselmani family in the Ramel district of Sour, killing three people and wounding two others. The Lebanese Red Cross is still searching for missing persons. The strike caused extensive damage to surrounding buildings.

Shortly after midnight, Israeli artillery also shelled the town of Khiam (Marjayoun) several times.
