At least eight Israeli strikes have targeted Beirut's southern suburbs since 10 p.m. on Friday, around 45 minutes after a call to evacuate three buildings in the area by the Israeli army, which has been pounding Hezbollah strongholds in Lebanon for the past month, according to the National News Agency (NNA) and local media.
After the first two strikes, shortly after 10 p.m., AFPTV footage showed wisps of gray smoke rising over the southern suburbs. “Enemy aircraft carried out two new raids on Haret Hreik,” said NNA, citing one of the neighborhoods named by the Israeli army in its call to evacuate issued around 45 minutes before the strikes.
The bombardments then continued. By 11:15 p.m., six of them had targeted Haret Hreik, one Burj al-Barajneh and an eighth, very violent, in Laylaki.
The Israeli army had called for the evacuation of three buildings in Haret Hreik and Burj al-Barajneh. According to maps posted on X by Avichay Adraee, the Israeli army's Arabic-speaking spokesman, the buildings concerned were as follows: In Haret Hreik, a building near the al-Bayan public school and another a few meters from the Bahman hospital. In Burj al-Barajneh, a building near the al-Anabel school.
