BEIRUT — The offices of National Broadcasting Network (NBN), a television channel linked to the Amal Movement and Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, a Hezbollah ally, were evacuated on Tuesday evening after receiving threats, according to our correspondent. The threats were soon deemed to be a hoax.
"Some time ago, an employee of the chain received a call asking him to evacuate the premises," NBN presenter Abbas Zalzali told viewers. "This caused a wave of panic in the building and surrounding areas. After contacting the relevant security authorities, it turned out to be a fraudulent call made from abroad."
"And as you can see, we have resumed work as normal."
NBN’s headquarters is located in the Bir Hassan neighborhood of Beirut’s southern suburbs.
Last Thursday, the offices of the Qatari television channel Al Jazeera and the Norwegian Embassy in downtown Beirut were also evacuated after the building manager received warning calls. However, the threats were also later deemed false.
An employee of Al Mayadeen, a pro-Hezbollah channel, told L'Orient Today that the channel had relocated some staff to Baghdad, Iraq, due to the escalating war in Lebanon.
