In the Middle East, Biden plays his last cards before the end of his term
The head of state of the world's leading power seems to want to regain the upper hand in his relationship with Israel while protecting their common interests.

In the Middle East, little was expected anymore. Perceived as weak and with his hands tied due to a crucial electoral deadline, the American president appeared to be led up the garden path by Israel, while others no longer gave any credibility to his efforts for de-escalation. Recently, however, Joe Biden sent a clear message to his ally through his secretaries of state and defense, Antony Blinken and Lloyd Austin. In a letter dated Oct. 13 and addressed to their Israeli counterparts, the ministers threatened to alter future American military aid to the Jewish state if progress was not observed within 30 days on several issues: humanitarian assistance to Gaza, the forced evacuation of residents from the north to the south, the Israeli bill against UNRWA, and allowing the Red Cross to visit Israeli prisons.
