At least 40 countries expressed their "full support" for the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), "condemn[ed] recent attacks on the UNIFIL peacekeeper" and called for their protection — five of whom were injured in the past 48 hours.


"We urge the parties of the conflict to respect the UNIFIL's presence, which entails the obligations to guarantee the safety and security of its personnel at all times," read a statement from 34 countries contributing to the U.N. force. Six more nations have since joined the call, according to a letter posted on Poland's U.N. mission's X account.

"The enemy's barbarism will not deter us from carrying out our mission until victory. We emphasize that we will continue to work to serve our people in the region," the statement concluded.

Here are the latest updates on Israeli attacks in Zahle, Balbeck-Hermel and Bekaa districts, according to our correspondent:

-Two people were killed in the strike on Tamnin, in the Baaleck district.


- Airstrikes targeted Saraine, Rmeileh and Nabi Sheet, in the Baalbeck district. No casualties have been reported yet.


- The Tall Shiha hospital, near Zahle, was damaged by nearby Israeli attacks, the hospital announced in a statement. No deaths or injuries have been reported among patients or nursing staff. 


- An airstrike targeted the outskirts of Khodor, near Baalbeck, leveling a house to the ground.

Two people from the town of Fnaidek (Akkar district) allegedly received calls at different times today from unknown numbers claiming to be from the Israeli army warning them to evacuate their homes and move away from them for a distance of more than three kilometers, local residents told our correspondent in the north.


The number threatened that the two individuals were being monitored and that they knew about their alleged communication with people within the town of Marjhin in the Baalbek-Hermel district and that the Israeli air force is monitoring Qammoua (Akkar district), local residents reported to our correspondent in the north.


These calls caused confusion among the residents about whether they were serious or false warnings, our correspondent reported. The concerned security authorities were informed of the matter and residents are awaiting a response.

A UNIFIL peacekeeper has been wounded in Lebanon, the fifth in two days, UNIFIL spokesman Andrea Tenenti told AFP on Saturday, noting that the force had refused to leave its positions in southern Lebanon as Israel had demanded.


The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) refused to withdraw five kilometers further north into Lebanese territory, as demanded by the Israeli army, which has since targeted it on several occasions, provoking an international outcry, Tenenti also said.


“The Israeli forces asked us to leave our positions along the Blue Line, from the border to five kilometers from the Blue Line (...) but there was a unanimous decision for us to stay, because the U.N. flag must fly in this area,” he explained. The Secretary General of the Lebanese Red Cross, Georges Kettaneh, stated that the organization "informs the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and UNIFIL of all its movements and missions, especially when it operates at the border with Israel, to ensure the protection of volunteer rescuers," according to local media reports.

As the Israeli military attacks northern Gaza from the air and ground, the armed wing of Hamas reports that ground fighting continues in the southern part of the enclave as well.

The Qassam Brigades stated on Telegram that the fighters used Yassin-105 anti-armor explosive shells in the al-Jnaina neighborhood east of Rafah city, located in the southernmost part of Gaza, to target two Merkava tanks and a D9 bulldozer belonging to the Israeli military.

Israeli army Arabic spokesperson Avichay Adraee warned this morning that the military "will take necessary measures" against any vehicle transporting Hezbollah fighters.

Nicaragua announced it will sever diplomatic relations with Israel, which has been criticized by President Daniel Ortega’s government over its war with Hamas in Gaza, Vice President Rosario Murillo said.

“Our president has instructed the Foreign Ministry to break diplomatic ties with the fascist and genocidal government of Israel,” Murillo, who is also Ortega’s wife, told the state media.

Mexico’s new president, Claudia Sheinbaum, called for the recognition of both Palestine and Israel as part of efforts to achieve peace in the Middle East.

Israeli army targets several villages overnight, according to our correspondent Muntasser Abdallah:

- Between 11:00 p.m. and midnight, Israeli airstrikes targeted the villages of Aita al-Shaab, Hanine, Kafra and Serbine. Artillery fire also hit Hanine and Aita al-Shaab.

- At midnight, eight Israeli airstrikes targeted Aita al-Shaab (Bint Jbeil) and six others hit the village of Chacra (Bint Jbeil).

- After midnight, heavy missiles were fired at Majdal Selm, Tayr Debba, Kounin, Kabriha, Dhaira, Ramiyeh, Majdal Zoun, Marwahine, and Ainata, causing loud explosions that resonated throughout southern Lebanon. One person was killed in raids targeting the outskirts of Ghazieh.

Hezbollah claims six attacks overnight:

- At 1:00 a.m. and 1:30 a.m., Hezbollah claimed responsibility for two attacks. The first targeted "a gathering of Israeli enemy soldiers at the 'Jardah' site," while the second aimed at "the 'Souma' base in the occupied Golan Heights." Both attacks were carried out using "salvos of rockets."

- At 2:10 a.m., the group targeted a gathering of Israeli soldiers at the Zar'it barracks (across from the Lebanese village of Ramiyeh) with a salvo of rockets.

- At 3:45 a.m., Hezbollah fired a rocket at an Israeli army position in Ma'ilia, facing Yarin.

- At 3:50 a.m., as an Israeli military bulldozer attempted to leave the area near Ramiyeh towards the village, Hezbollah claimed to have targeted it with a guided missile, hitting it "directly."

- At 4:15 a.m., Hezbollah fighters targeted an infantry force at Khirbet Zar'it with artillery shells, claiming to have "directly hit" it.

Overnight, Hezbollah urged Israelis to stay away from military sites located in residential areas of northern Israel.

"The Israeli enemy's army is using houses [...] as gathering centers for its officers and soldiers" in several regions of northern Israel and "has military bases" in major northern cities, including "Haifa, Tiberias and Acre," Hezbollah stated in a message broadcast in Arabic and Hebrew. The party warned "residents who may be near these military gatherings to preserve their lives."

The 10 elected members of the U.N. Security Council expressed “deep concern” over attacks on several UNIFIL positions on Oct. 10 and 11, according to a statement released yesterday. They urged “all parties to respect international humanitarian law and ensure the safety and security of UNIFIL personnel and facilities.” They further noted that “any deliberate attack on peacekeepers is a serious violation of international humanitarian law and Security Council Resolution 1701, and must stop immediately.”

The council members also voiced “grave concern” over the rising civilian casualties, the destruction of civilian infrastructure and the increasing number of internally displaced people in Lebanon. They called for an immediate ceasefire, strict compliance with international humanitarian law and the full implementation of Resolution 1701.

Yesterday, UNIFIL announced that its headquarters in Naqoura "was struck by explosions for the second time in 48 hours." The statement noted that "two Sri Lankan peacekeepers were injured after two explosions occurred near an observation tower."
