Two people killed in Kiryat Shmona by rockets fired from Lebanon

Two people were killed on Wednesday by rocket fire from neighboring Lebanon on Kiryat Shmona in northern Israel, Israeli emergency services reported. These are the first people killed in Israel by rockets from Lebanon since the intensification of the Israeli military offensive against Hezbollah in the second half of September.

"We found a man and a woman, both around 40 years old, unconscious and injured by shrapnel. We performed medical examinations, but their injuries were severe, and we had to confirm their deaths on site," said a statement from Magen David Adom, the Israeli equivalent of the Red Cross.

Kiryat Shmona, whose center is two kilometers from the border with Lebanon, is frequently targeted by Hezbollah rockets and has been declared a closed military zone by the army for several months. "Approximately 20 projectiles" were fired at the town on Wednesday early afternoon from Lebanon, according to a communiqué from the Israeli army.
