WAR IN LEBANON

Now that Hezbollah is defeated, it changes its tone and wants a ceasefire says U.S. State Department spokesperson

The spokesperson for the U.S. State Department, Matthew Miller, told the press that Washington wanted a diplomatic resolution to the war between Israel and Hezbollah. "For a year, you had the world calling for this ceasefire, you had Hezbollah refusing to agree to one, and now that Hezbollah is on the back foot and is getting battered, suddenly they've changed their tune and want a ceasefire," Miller said.

"We support the efforts made by Israel to reduce Hezbollah's capabilities, but it is true that ultimately, we want a diplomatic resolution to this conflict," he added. On Tuesday, Hezbollah's deputy leader, Naim Qassem, said he supported the efforts of the political class in Lebanon for a ceasefire. "We support the political efforts led by President (of the Parliament Nabih) Berri, which primarily aim for a ceasefire," he said during a speech broadcast by the party's al-Manar television.
