BEIRUT — A Lebanese Army soldier was killed on Monday after an "Israeli enemy drone targeted a motorcycle as it was passing through the Lebanese Army's al-Amra-Wazzani checkpoint," according to a statement from the Lebanese Army. Security sources told our correspondent in the South that the soldier, initially injured by shrapnel, was transported to a hospital but succumbed to his wounds an hour later.

A security source also revealed to our correspondent that the soldier's brother had been killed in an Israeli airstrike during the onset of cross-border hostilities last Oct., though it remains unclear if his brother was also serving in the Lebanese Army.

This latest incident brings the total number of Lebanese Army casualties to four since Hezbollah and Israel began clashing along the Lebanese-Israeli border last October. While Hezbollah has been involved in the fighting, the Israeli army itself has not been directly engaged with the Lebanese Army.

Since last Monday, Israel has intensified its airstrikes across Lebanon, particularly in the Bekaa Valley, South Lebanon, and more recently in Beirut's southern suburbs. These strikes have claimed over a thousand lives so far.
