In Jezzine, 45 prisoners from the local prison succeeded on Sunday in escaping. According to Khalil Harfouche, president of the Jezzine municipal council, 43 of these prisoners had already been found and brought back behind bars by the army's intelligence services by late afternoon, our correspondent reported. Two remain on the run, however, but security forces have managed to drive them back to a forest outside the town, and their capture should only be a matter of hours, according to our correspondent's sources.
The affair has created unrest in Jezzine, and rumors of a gun battle have circulated. Harfouche denies that any shots were fired between the police and the escaped prisoners in the middle of town.
