Lebanese Prime Minister Nagib Mikati, currently in New York, is « closely following the news regarding the Israeli strikes on the southern suburbs of Beirut, » according to a statement from his press office.
He has contacted the commander of the Lebanese army, General Joseph Aoun, and the coordinator of the Lebanese National Emergency Committee, the outgoing Minister of Environment, Nasser Yassine. According to the statement, Mr. Mikati has asked the latter « to mobilize all concerned agencies, especially in light of reports of a large number of casualties. »
« This new aggression proves that the Israeli enemy disregards all international efforts and calls for a ceasefire, placing the international community before its responsibilities to deter this enemy and put an end to its tyranny and the extermination war it is waging against Lebanon, » Mr. Mikati denounced.
