BEIRUT — The Israeli army radio announced on Wednesday that the elite 98th Division of the Israeli army will be redeployed from the Gaza Strip to the northern front — along the border with Lebanon.

The military correspondent of the Israeli army radio station, Doron Kadosh added that the division was initially scheduled "to continue fighting in the Gaza Strip, but on the last day it was decided to divert it to the north."

The 98th Paratroopers Division is a reserve-service infantry division in the Israeli army.

Hezbollah and Israel have been engaged in daily clashes along the Lebanese-Israeli border amid the Gaza war. On Tuesday, at least 12 people were killed and nearly 3,000 wounded when pagers used by Hezbollah members detonated simultaneously across Lebanon, raising fears of an escalation between Hezbollah and Israel.
