The parliamentary group of the Free Patriotic Movement (FPM) stated on Tuesday that "waiting for foreign intervention to resolve the presidential deadlock is a form of conspiracy," as Lebanon has been without a president since October 2022.

"Waiting for foreign powers to unlock the presidential file is a kind of conspiracy on an issue tied to the existence of the state," the FPM deputies warned following their weekly meeting, according to a statement released at the end of the session. They also said that "the ongoing presidential vacuum is leading to further disintegration of state institutions, especially given the absence of signs of an imminent end to the war that has been ongoing for a year in Gaza and South Lebanon."

The FPM called on Parliament to "assume its constitutional responsibilities and fulfill its national duty to end the vacancy and reach a consensus on a president, or hold open sessions until a president is elected." The parliamentary group also questioned "discussions around a parliamentary electoral law at a time when Lebanon is still suffering from a presidential vacuum."
