A breakdown in landline and DSL internet services was reported today by the Lebanese public operator Ogero, which provides these services in Amchit, near Jbeil, north of Beirut.
Customers in the Amchit area have been without connection since this morning due to a malfunction at the city’s central office, caused by "an overload on the generators" powering the facility. Repairs are underway, according to Ogero.
Lebanon experienced a nationwide power outage on Aug. 17 due to a lack of fuel oil to run the country's power plants. State-owned supplier Electricite du Liban (EDL) announced that it would use some of the fuel stocks available at the Zahrani oil installations in southern Lebanon to restart a nearby power plant and supply power to "essential" public infrastructures. However, significant pressure remains on generators providing power to telecommunications centers.
