Middle East Airlines (MEA), Lebanon's national carrier, announced on Wednesday revised flight schedules, to and from Beirut, for Sept. 6 to 15, 2024. The airline cited "technical reasons related to the distribution of insurance risks" for the delays affecting flights between Lebanon and several destinations, according to a statement.
The current period was previously addressed in a statement issued on August 28.
In light of the Gaza war that began on Oct. 7, 2023, now nearing its one-year mark, and Hezbollah's 'support front' that began a day later, air traffic has not yet returned to normal.
While Air France and Transavia have resumed flights to and from Beirut, the Greek carrier Aegean Airlines has suspended its flights to the Lebanese capital until Oct. 1, according to Reuters. Air Algérie has suspended flights until "further notice," and LOT Polish Airlines until Sept. 2. Lufthansa Group has suspended its flights to Beirut until Sept. 30.
MEA, however, has maintained all its flights, only adjusting some schedules, citing the now familiar "technical reasons related to the distribution of insurance risks for aircraft between Lebanon and other destinations."
