In Gaza, Israeli soldiers burn the Quran and destroy mosques
For the past 10 months, the desecration of religious sites and the burning of sacred texts by Israeli soldiers have been rampant in the ongoing Gaza war.
On Aug. 23, Al Jazeera broadcast new footage showing Israeli soldiers tearing pages from the Quran and tossing them into a fire set inside the Bani Saleh mosque in northern Gaza.The footage, reportedly obtained from cameras attached to the soldiers’ gear, was widely circulated on social media, particularly by Hamas, which called on Arab and Muslim countries and organizations to condemn these actions. “The burning of Quran copies, the desecration and destruction of mosques confirm the extremist nature of this entity and its criminal soldiers filled with hate, as well as their fascist behavior against everything related to the identity and sacred values of our nation,” declared Hamas in a statement posted on Telegram the same day.
