With a sharp statement released on Sunday night, Hamas seems to have dashed any hope of a cease-fire in the Palestinian enclave. “We hold Benjamin Netanyahu fully responsible for the failure of mediators’ efforts, for obstructing an agreement and for the lives of the hostages, who are in the same danger as our people,” declared Hamas, while U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken was in Tel Aviv pushing for a deal. For Hamas which did not send representatives to Doha for a new round of diplomatic efforts for a truce, and which will continue this week in Cairo, the deadlock is clear. The negotiations have failed due to “the imposition of American diktats,” said Hamas on Saturday, also accusing Israel of adding “new conditions,” making an agreement impossible.
