BEIRUT — The Civil Defense Marine Rescue Unit retrieved a body from the waters opposite the Raouche Rock in Beirut, Lebanon, the rescue team said in a statement.
It was not clear how the person died.
The Civil Defense Marine Rescue Unit and neighboring land centers were called to the scene at around 2:00 p.m. today and successfully recovered the body from the water.
The Civil Defense ambulance then transported the deceased individual to the military hospital in Beirut. This occurred after the arrival and completion of the necessary legal procedures by the competent security services.
The circumstances surrounding the incident are currently under investigation, and the identity of the victim has not yet been disclosed. The Lebanese Army and the Civil Defense were not immediately available for comment.
Over the past several months, unstable weather conditions and powerful waves have made swimming off Lebanon's coasts particularly risky.
