BEIRUT — A bush fire broke out on Thursday in the outskirts of the towns of al-Monsa and Qanya in the Jabal Akroum area in Akkar, North Lebanon, our correspondent in the area.
The blaze has spread nearby forested areas in the vicinity. Civil defense teams from the centers of Akroum, Wadi Khaled, Andqet and Shadra, along with volunteers and local residents, worked to extinguish the fire. Cooling operations remain ongoing.
Northern Lebanon has experienced numerous fires since the beginning of the summer. In June, the Environment Ministry warned of a significant increase in the risk of fires. While many of the fires' causes remain unknown, the combination of drought and high temperatures creates conditions that facilitate their rapid spread.
