A newborn baby was found abandoned on Tuesday in a street in Tripoli, North Lebanon, according to our correspondent Michel Hallak.

The infant, a girl, was discovered by the side of the road and has been placed in the care of relevant authorities.

The circumstances surrounding the abandonment and the child's identity remain unclear.

Lebanon continues to grapple with various social and economic issues affecting its vulnerable populations.

In 2023, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) reported a “distressing” rise in child abuse and abandonment cases. These increases are linked to the impact of the financial crisis on families.
