Hezbollah's press office, contacted by L'Orient Today, denied on Thursday having issued a statement mentioning a "possible worsening of the security situation" in Lebanon, two days after an Israeli strike killed a senior official of the party in the southern suburbs of Beirut.

The alarmist statement in question called for "keeping calm as much as possible in case our areas are bombed," "avoiding gatherings at the attack site to leave room for the concerned parties," "keeping windows slightly open to avoid pressure from explosions," and "safeguarding certain essential items, especially regularly used medications, as a precaution."

This statement began circulating on instant messaging groups on Thursday, a few hours before the funeral of Fouad Shukur, the high-ranking Hezbollah commander killed in an Israeli strike on Tuesday in the heart of the southern suburbs. The party's secretary general, Hassan Nasrallah, is expected to speak during the funeral on Thursday evening.
