On Friday, the General Directorate of Internal Security Forces (ISF) announced the arrest of a group responsible for staging an armed robbery aimed at stealing $200,000.
According to the ISF, an exchange office employee was robbed of $205,000 by two individuals in a vehicle with tinted windows. The suspects opened fire on his car near Kharayeb (north of Sour, in the Saida district) before fleeing to an unknown location. They also stole his mobile phone.
An investigation was launched on the same day, during which the exchange employee confessed to being involved with the attackers. The two suspects were subsequently arrested in Saida. Upon their arrest, they admitted to coordinating with the exchange employee to steal the money he was transporting. Searches at the homes of the two robbers led to the recovery of just over $140,000, along with the weapons, clothes and car used in the robbery.
The recovered funds have been returned to the manager of the exchange office where the arrested employee worked.
