A two-year-old child died in hospital on Tuesday from injuries sustained from being thrown off a balcony in Tripoli's Ayrounieh neighborhood.
According to anonymous medical sources, the child, who lived in Ayrounieh, was admitted to the government hospital in Qibbeh, eastern Tripoli, on Monday in critical condition. A forensic examination revealed that the child had been raped. The sources suggested that the perpetrator likely threw the child off a balcony to "conceal the abuse."
Lebanese authorities have been informed and have already arrested several of the child's family members. An investigation is underway to confirm the details and identify the perpetrator(s).
The hospital management declined to comment, referring inquiries to law enforcement amid the ongoing investigation.
