A major fire that erupted in green spaces and spread to the Tall Jbeil forests on the outskirts of Meshmesh in Akkar, northern Lebanon, was brought under control by the end of the day, reported our correspondent Michel Hallak.

Civil Defense teams and volunteers from the Dareb Akkar association were deployed in the afternoon to combat the blaze. The fire was contained after four hours, and cooling operations are ongoing.

Residents have urged the relevant authorities to intervene to prevent future incidents, as it is believed that the fire may have been sparked by gunfire in the forests.

Numerous fires have occurred in northern Lebanon since the beginning of the summer. While the causes of many remain unknown, the combination of drought and high temperatures creates conditions that facilitate the rapid spread of fires.
