Ogero, the public operator responsible for managing fixed telephony and Internet in Lebanon, reported a malfunction at its Hamra central office in west Beirut on Friday morning around 8:30 a.m. The incident was attributed to "pressure on the generators" providing electricity to the infrastructure, as stated in a release on X.
This malfunction resulted in the suspension of services in the area covered by this central office and "several neighboring regions." Efforts are underway to "repair the issue as soon as possible."
Generators are used as a backup to supply the necessary electricity for telecommunications stations during frequent public electricity rationing hours. Since the onset of Lebanon's economic crisis in 2019, Ogero's network has regularly experienced malfunctions due to electricity shortages or equipment thefts.
