“What is the purpose of a short meeting between the four Christian leaders and Cardinal Pietro Parolin [Vatican secretary of state]?” asked the leader of the Lebanese Forces, Samir Geagea, in an interview on Thursday evening with MTV, 10 days after Parolin’s visit to Beirut. Geagea implied that the reasons behind the LF and the Kataeb’s boycott of the meeting with Parolin were “highly political,” contrary to previous claims that it was because of “security concerns.” He did note that he has “been following a security protocol for some time,” which the Kataeb also echoed.
