The Belgian Embassy in Beirut reiterated on Thursday its advisory for its citizens to "leave Lebanon" or avoid traveling to the country due to "increased hostilities at the border with Israel."
Since Oct. 8, 2023, following the start of the Gaza war, Hezbollah has engaged in near-daily attacks with Israel, resulting in numerous casualties and significant damage on both sides of the Blue Line.
The embassy's message reminded nationals that these recommendations have been in effect since October 20, emphasizing that "the risk of the conflict spreading to other regions of Lebanon remains present." It noted that in the event of further deterioration in the situation, consular services may be limited. The advisory also cautioned that there is no guarantee of organized evacuation for Belgian citizens from Lebanon if necessary.
"We understand that many of your relatives or family members typically visit Lebanon during the summer season. Given the current volatile security situation in Lebanon, we encourage considering alternative destinations to reunite and spend time together," the advisory concluded.
