Another Palestinian journalist has been killed by Israel in the Gaza Strip, several media outlets reported on Sunday, including The New Arab website and the Daily Sabah, citing the Hamas media office in Gaza and the Islamist movement's Al-Aqsa TV channel. Al-Aqsa TV announced on June 20 via the Telegram platform that its journalist, Salim al-Charafa, "died as a martyr" on Thursday, the victim of a bombardment in western Gaza.

According to figures from the Hamas media office in Gaza, dated June 22, 152 media professionals have been killed since the start of the war in the Palestinian enclave in October 2023 between the Israeli army and Hamas.

The non-profit Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ), says journalists in Gaza "face particularly high risks when trying to cover the conflict during the Israeli ground assault, due in particular to devastating Israeli airstrikes, interrupted communications, lack of supplies and massive power outages."

"At least 108 journalists and media employees are among the more than 38,000 people killed since the war began (...) making it the deadliest period for journalists since the Committee began collecting data in 1992," according to a June 23 CPJ survey.
