BEIRUT — A Syrian child died Sunday after being admitted to hospital in critical condition following a severe beating, two security sources told our correspondent in the Bekaa. The sources added that the beating took place in the Baalbeck district and that the child's father is the main suspect in the case.
The child, aged 10, was transferred to the Dar al-Amal University Hospital in the village of Douris (Bekaa) in a critical condition, the sources said. They added that she died after surgical interventions to save her life were unsuccessful.
According to the sources, the Internal Security Forces have opened an investigation into the death. They added that a search is underway for the victim's father, who has reportedly fled the plain of the village of Taraya (Baalbeck) to an unknown destination.
According to the state-run National News Agency, a forensic doctor examined the child's body and found that the victim had been "severely beaten with a sharp object."
