Lebanon's caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati declared three days of national mourning on Monday, following the deaths of Iranian President Ebrahim Raissi and Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian in a helicopter crash on Sunday.

A circular signed by Mikati explained that on this occasion flags will be flown at half-mast on all public buildings in the country, and that “the usual radio and television programs will be modified in connection with the event.”

This morning, Hezbollah's al-Manar TV channel broadcast Iranian TV footage of men praying in Iran.

In Lebanon, several officials have paid tribute to Raisi and Amir-Abdollahian. The Jaafarite Mufti, Ahmad Kabalan, close to Hezbollah and the Amal Movement, praised "an exceptional personality" who "constantly extended his hand to serve Lebanon and contributed to the liberation of its territory."

Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, in a statement addressed to Iran's supreme leader, Ali Khamenei, expressed, "On behalf of myself, the Lebanese Parliament, and the Lebanese people, we extend our deepest condolences to you and the Iranian people ... and I pray for God to bestow upon you good health and guidance in leading the Islamic Republic of Iran and its revolution towards more resilience, strength, and prosperity."

The caretaker foreign minister, Abdallah Bou Habib, expressed his “sadness” at the accident that led to the deaths of Ebrahim Raisi and Abdollahian. The latter was “a friend of Lebanon,” a country he had visited “many times,” the minister recalled.

The Syrian Social Nationalist Party (SNSP) also expressed its condolences in a statement, saying that the death of the two men was “a loss for Iran and its people, but also for the various causes of the Arab nation, chief among them the Palestinian cause.” “History will remember that it was under Raisi's mandate that missiles and drones were sent from Iranian territory to occupied Palestine,” the party added, referring to the unprecedented attack launched by Tehran against Israel on the night of April 13-14.

Mikati also sent a message of condolence to Ali Khamenei, according to a statement from the Grand Serail.
