BEIRUT — Two out of five people, who found themselves in trouble while swimming on Sunday, are still missing off Jbeil beach in northern Lebanon, the civil defense said in a statement.
The sea was rough on Saturday due to incoming bad weather.
Members of the Marine Rescue Unit and other departments in the civil defense rescued three men from the sea. Two of those rescued were transferred to a nearby hospital in Jbeil, while the third person was provided with the necessary first aid at the scene.
"The search is still ongoing for two other missing persons," the civil defense added.
There have been a number of incidents of swimmers getting into trouble off Lebanon's coast in recent weeks. Several of these have ended in tragedy. On April 26, the lifeless body of a man was recovered from the sea off the coast of Sour in South Lebanon. Similarly, the body of a man was found on Monday afternoon at Raouche beach in Beirut, according to the civil defense.
