BEIRUT — Two Syrian nationals drowned in the sea off the coast of Sour on Friday. Three other people who were also drowning managed to be rescued, according to a source in the Lebanese Civil Defense who spoke with L'Orient Today's correspondent in the South, Muntasser Abdallah.
The head of Civil Defense in Sour, Ali Safieddine, said that two Syrians died while out in the water and two other Syrians and a Lebanese — a Lebanese Army soldier — who had been trying to save the two who drowned were rescued by the Civil Defense members and taken to the Lebanese-Italian hospital in the city for treatment.
The deceased had gone to the beach on Friday with a group of 30 others, all from the same family. The beach was closed, cordoned off with wires and warning signs that the swimming season had not yet started.
