BEIRUT — Lebanon's caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati arrived in Qatar on Sunday morning on an official visit, where he is meeting with the country's emir Sheikh Tamim ben Hamad Al Thani, as well as the prime minister and minister of foreign affairs, Sheikh Mohammad ben Abdel Rahman Al Thani.
The visit was announced in a statement issued by Mikati's press office.
The Lebanese premier was welcomed at the airport in Qatar by Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Mohammad ben Abdel Aziz Khalifi and the chargé d'affaires of the Lebanese Embassy in Qatar, Farah Berry.
The visit comes on the 23rd day of the conflict between Hamas and Israel, which has spilled over into Lebanon, as Hezbollah and Israel exchange fire daily across Lebanon's southern border. The shelling has left dozens, the majority Hezbollah fighters, dead on the Lebanese side.
Since the war began, Qatar has been a key mediator, most notably on the issue of the hostages taken by Hamas in Israel on Oct. 7.
